The 一 (yī=as soon as)…就(jiù=then) construction is used to show that the second action happens immediately after the first action.
Example 1:
(Every time) she gets diarrhea as soon as she eats a hot pepper. Or (Every time) as soon as she eats a hot pepper then she gets diarrhea).
她(tā)一(yī)吃(chī)辣椒(làjiāo)，就(jiù)拉肚子(lādùzi)(了(le))。
Example 2:
(Every time) the baby gets rabid as soon as he listens the rock music. Or (Every time) as soon as the baby listens the rock music then he gets rabid.
宝宝(bǎobao)一(yī)听(tīng)摇滚乐(yáogǔnyuè)就(jiù)狂躁(kuángzào) (了(le))。
Example 3:
(Every time) he gets angry as soon as he sees you. Or (Every time) as soon as he sees you then he gets angry.
他(tā)一(yī)见(jiàn)你(nǐ)就(jiù)生气(shēngqì) (了(le))。
Example 4:
(Every time) you suspect that he ate something he shouldn’t have as soon as he gets sick. Or (Every time) as soon as he gets sick then you suspect that he ate something he shouldn’t have.
他(tā)一(yī)生病(shēngbìng)你(nǐ)就(jiù)怀疑(huáiyí)他(tā)乱吃(luànchī)东西(dōngxi) (了(le))。
Example 5:
(Every time) she wants to go to Jiangnan, as soon as the spring comes. Or (Every time) As soon as the spring comes, then she wants to go to Jiangnan).
春天(Chūntiān=spring)一来(yīlái)，她(tā)就(jiù)想(xiǎng)去(qù)江南(jiāngnán) (了(le))。
b. 一(yī)…就(jiù) can also refer to a past or future action as an one-time situation. Here the second action takes place as soon as the first is completed.
Example 1:
Yesterday I wrote Chinese Calligraphy as soon as I finished my homework. Or Yesterday as soon as I finished my homework then I wrote Chinese Calligraphy).
我(wǒ)昨天(zuótiān)一(yī)做(zuò)好(hǎo)作业(zuòyè)就(jiù)写(xiě)毛笔字(máobǐzì)了(le)。
Example 2:
Tomorrow I will write Chinese Calligraphy as soon as I finish my homework. Or Tomorrow as soon as I finish my homework, then I will write Chinese Calligraphy.
我(wǒ)明天(míngtiān)一(yī)做(zuò)好(hǎo)作业(zuòyè)就(jiù)写(xiě)毛笔字(máobǐzì)。
