English Loan-words in Chinese

1. 博客(bó​kè=blog)

巧克力(qiǎokèlì=chocolate)

Example:

She was writing her blog and eating chocolate at the same time.

她(tā)一边(yī​biān)写(xiě)博客(bókè)一边(yībiān)吃(chī)巧克力(qiǎokèlì)。

2. 沙发(shā​fā =sofa)

卡通(kǎ​tōng = cartoon)

Example :

He was lying down on sofa and watching cartoons at the same time.

他(tā)一边(yībiān)躺(tǎng)在沙发(shāfā)一边(yībiān)看(kàn​)卡通(kǎtōng)。

3. 苏打(sū​dá=soda)

可乐(kě​lè=cola)

咖啡(kā​fēi = coffee)

Do you like soda shop cola or coffee?

你(nǐ)喜欢(xǐ​huan)苏打(sū​dá)可乐(kě​lè)还是(hái​shi​)咖啡(kā​fēi)?

4. 妈咪(mā​mi=mommy)

布丁(bù​dīng=pudding)

沙拉(shā​lā=salad)

汉堡(hàn​bǎo=hamburger)

Example:

Today my mom wants to make pudding and hamburger with salad.

我(wǒ)妈咪(māmi)今天(jīn​tiān)要(yào)做(zuò​)布丁(bù​dīng)和(hé​)汉堡(hàn​bǎo) 沙拉(shā​lā)。

5. 麦克风(mài​kè​fēng=microphone)

卡拉OK(kǎ​lā​ O K=karaoke)

幽默(yōu​mò=humor)

昨天(zuó​tiān)他(tā)在(zài)卡拉OK(kǎ​lā​ O K=karaoke)唱(chàng)了(le)一(yī)首(shǒu)幽默(yōu​mò=humor) 歌(gē)。他(tā)唱功(chàng​gōng)不错(bù​cuò​),可惜(kě​xī)麦克风(màikèfēng)坏(huài)了(le)。

6. 模特(mó​tè = model)

摩登(mó​dēng=modern, fashionable)

Example:

Those little models are very fashionable.

那些(nà​xiē)小(xiǎo​)模特(mótè)穿(chuān)的(de)衣服(yī​fu)很(hěn)摩登 (mó​dēng)。

7. 摩托车(mó​tuō​chē = motorcycle)

巴士(bā​shì=bus)

Example:

I often go to school by bus sometimes by motorcycle.

我(wǒ)经常(jīng​cháng)去(qù)学校(xué​xiào)坐(zuò)巴士(bāshì),有时(yǒu​shí​)坐(zuò)摩托车(mótuōchē)。

8. 高尔夫(gāo​’ěr​fū=golf)

吉他(jí​tā=guitar)

Example:

I can play guitar but cannot play golf.

我(wǒ)会(huì)弹(tán)吉他(jítā), 但是(dàn​shì)不会(bù​huì)打(dǎ)高尔夫(​gāo​’ěr​fū​)。
